inspiring youngsters to be the best they can
The future of Canvey Island Rugby Club
Our welcome to you...
Welcome to the Youth section of Canvey Island Rugby Club. We currently run 14 age groups, starting at our youngest ‘Micros’ group (U5s), up to our U16s side.
We have a pool of motivated coaches who are all RFU DBS checked, well qualified and have access to several coaching mentors who have achieved a certificated RFU level 2 standard, this ensures a consistently high level of coaching for our young players.
We have a ‘Kids First’ approach our youth section which means that all coaching decisions are made with the players welfare and enjoyment in mind
We commit to keep things as affordable as possible, and all training sessions, training events and matchday fees are included in our incredibly affordable Club Membership . If a new starter enjoys their first few sessions with us, they can sign up to our incredibly affordable Club Membership.
We are adamant that no child will be denied rugby due to cost/high membership fees.

Youth Chairman
Following the TREDS values from the RFU
“Our aim is to develop and deliver the ‘TREDS’ values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship – producing great rugby players who are also good people.”
Dave Gillespie
Youth Chairman
Teamwork is essential to our sport. We welcome all new team members and include all because working as a team enriches our lives. We play selflessly: working for the team, not for ourselves alone, both on and off the field. We take pride in our team, rely on one another and understand that each player has a part to play. We speak out if our team or sport is threatened by inappropriate words or actions.
Mutual respect forms the basis of our sport. We hold in high esteem our sport, its values and traditions and earn the respect of others in the way we behave. We respect our match officials and accept their decisions. We respect opposition players and supporters. We value our coaches and those who run our clubs and treat clubhouses with consideration.
Enjoyment is the reason we play and support rugby union. We encourage players to enjoy training and playing. We use our sport to adopt a healthy lifestyle and build life skills. We safeguard our young players and help them have fun. We enjoy being part of a team and part of the rugby family.
Strong discipline underpins our sport. We ensure that our sport is one of controlled physical endeavour and that we are honest and fair. We obey the laws of the game which ensure an inclusive and exciting global sport. We support our disciplinary system, which protects our sport and upholds its values. We observe the sport’s laws and regulations and report serious breaches.

Youth RFU Registration
Age grade player registration is now a fully online process. This link takes you to the RFU page for a full explanation.
In Summary, a player’s parent/guardian registers their child on an annual basis on the RFUs management system, GMS. This then gets approved by the club registrar.
Overall, it means the shift is parent/guardian-led and ensures they are in control of the players individual record and hence ensures data security and GDPR compliance.
New Players
The parent/guardian creates a profile and registers the player with Canvey Island Rugby Club.
Existing Players
The parent/guardian updates the child’s details with any new medical information, contact details etc.
Further help can be found on the RFU Help Portal here.
STEP 1
First the parent/guardian must have a GMS account
Start by visiting: https://gms.rfu.com/GMS/Account/Login
This link will advise the parent/guardian on how to create an account and find our club. There is also a short video explaining the process in full.
STEP 2
Now that the parent/guardian has a GMS account, they can complete a NEW player registration for their child.
Again there is a short video explaining the process in full, found here.
STEP 3
The club registrar approves the registration and the parent/guardian receives a confirmation email.
STEP 1
The parent/guardian must log into their GMS account.
Note: if you don’t know your user name contact the club registrar who will email it to you . If you cant remember your password, use this link for guidance on resetting it.
STEP 2
Follow this link to guide you through the process if your child has been registered at the club before. Again there is a short video explaining the process in full.
Note: If your child is not linked to your account, please contact the club registrar directly, so we can link your accounts.
